New! Online - Demand Media, one of the fastest-growing social media companies in the industry, is seeking summer 2010 interns to work out of the Santa Monica office. All applicants must be enrolled in college courses and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better. Applicants must be available 12-20 hours a week during regular business hours for at least three months. Duties include: choosing timely articles and writing compelling headlines and copy for homepage and newsletters of Demand Media properties like, LIVESTRONG.COM and; working with editors to leverage social media tools and syndicate content across social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, digg, Yahoo! Shine and more; and attending weekly editorial meetings and participating in brainstorming sessions. Photojournalism - The Orlando Sentinel has an opportunity this summer for a promising photojournalism student to intern full-time as a news photographer for academic credit, shooting pictures for both the newspaper and its Web site. To apply, students must be enrolled for internship credit at a college or university. The number of weeks spent interning and the number of credits awarded vary by school. Candidates must have completed basic photojournalism courses and must have campus media experience. Internship or stringing experience is strongly preferred. Applicants also must have their own equipment and the use of a car, though the Sentinel will reimburse for mileage, tolls and parking. Students selected for internships must pass background checks and a drug screening test. To apply, please send a packet that includes: a letter describing your background, career goals and internship objectives; a resume with journalism-related references; and a CD or DVD, viewable on both Mac and PC, containing single pictures, a photo story and multimedia.
