New! Newspaper - The Silverton Standard & the Miner newspaper in the San Juan Mountains is seeking a summer news intern. The newspaper would prefer someone close to graduation who may want to take over as editor of the newspaper. The paper is now operated as a nonprofit by the San Juan County Historical Society. They're looking for an enthusiastic journalist with good writing and photography skills. - The Legislative Gazette in Albany, N.Y. offers a semester-long paid internship preparing interns to work for a newspaper, or in other meaningful communication positions, straight from college and can earn up to 15 upper division credits while doing it. Applicants can expect to gain extensive newsgathering and news-writing experience and have an opportunity to hone their skills in journalism, photojournalism, Web reporting and video to Web. The ideal candidate must have excellent written communication skills, a strong understanding of social networking (Facebook, Twitter, etc), a profound interest in entertainment, celebrities and pop culture and HTML skills are preferred, but not required. New! Newspaper Design - The Cape Cod Times, in Hyannis, MA, is seeking applications for its summer design internship. Our 10-week program combines work on both news and features pages, with a varied shift. Applicants can expect to work several days a week with our features design team designing covers and inside pages. They also will fill shifts on the night news design desk, which designs news, business and sports pages. The paper works in InDesign, with Photoshop and Illustrator ability helpful for features work. The internship pays $10/hour with a 37.5-hour work week. College newspaper design experience is expected of applicants. We’d like to see both news and features work if possible, with graphic examples encouraged, to gauge your overall strengths/weaknesses and suitability. New! Photojournalism - Condé Nast Traveler is looking for an intern in the photo department. This internship is for credit only and unpaid but offers a small daily stipend. It is open immediately and entails learning Web photo research skills, maintaining archives, and working on production of shoots (mapping locations, finding modeling agencies, contacting shoot sources, working on long term projects). They require general office organization skills such as answering phones, maintaining files, and xeroxing as needed. They also require a basic knowledge of Mac OS X, and the ability to learn applications such as Photoshop, Excel and Iview as needed. Newspaper - Bloomberg News is looking for summer interns for a hands-on experience reporting and writing for the print/news wire department of the world's largest real-time financial news service. Interns will contribute to coverage of financial markets, companies and economies. Successful applicants will produce breaking news stories under deadline pressure. Responsibilities may also include monitoring other media and writing spot features. This is a paid, 10-week internship program based in our Tokyo office this summer. A bachelor's degree in Communications Studies/Mass Comms or any equivalent experience is required, as is an interest in financial markets, companies and economies. Prior reporting experience is essential and prior experience working in a real-time news environment is desirable, as well as the ability to work within a team under deadline pressure, fluency in English and Japanese is preferred.
