New! Outdoor Writers Association of America - Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) will award scholarships in 2010 to budding outdoor communicators. Bodie McDowell scholarship awards are usually given annually. Scholarships can range from $1,000 to $5,000. Applicants must be students of outdoor communications fields including print, photography, film, art or broadcasting. The Bodie McDowell scholarship program is open to all college students, undergraduate and graduate, from all disciplines and all schools. Undergraduate applicants must be entering the junior or senior year of study; graduate student applicants must have at least one remaining year of study. Applicants should have career goals in outdoor communications; provide samples of work, and letters of recommendation. Academic achievement is considered but is not among the top three selection criteria. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2010. New! The Associated Press Sports Editors - The Associated Press Sports Editors are sponsoring four $1,500 scholarships for collegiate sports journalists. APSE, a national organization of sports editors, is awarding four scholarships to help motivate talented students to pursue a career in sports journalism. Collegiate sports journalists entering their sophomore, junior or senior years are eligible for the scholarship, which will awarded based on the students' journalistic work, their academic record, financial need, and geography. The deadline is June 1. Please include the following information in the letter of the application: name, address, age, phone number. A copy of the student's collegiate grades. A brief rundown of the student's financial situation, with regards to how he/she plans to pay for tuition. Five examples of sports journalism (usually stories but could also be sections the student has edited). The Tom Reilly Student Journalism Enterprise Fund - The Tom Reilly Student Journalism Enterprise Fund provides up to three scholarships to one or more journalism juniors, seniors, or graduate students for a student project or enterprise. Amounts up to $2,000 are available for the winning projects. The funds are available for projects during the spring 2010 semester. Applications are available in the Department of Journalism office and online at www.csun.edu/journalism. Deadline to apply is 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010.
