Hearst Award Program - The Hearst Journalism Award Program is offering Writing, Broadcast, Photo, and Multimedia competitions. The program is offering up to $500,000 in awards. The competition consists of six monthly writing competitions, three photojournalism competitions, three broadcast news competitions (one in radio and two in television), and two multimedia competitions - with championship finals in all divisions. The program is open to journalism students attending accredited universities in the U.S. Entrants must have published articles, photographs or produced newscasts or multimedia pieces that can be submitted in our writing, photojournalism, broadcast news and/or multimedia competitions.
- Writing competition: categories include Feature writing, Opinion Writing, In-Depth Writing, Sports Writing, Personality/Profile Writing, Spot News Writing. The 51st annual national writing championship happening June 8 - 12 will open only to the six first-place monthly winners and the two finalists who placed highest in their top two scores.
- Broadcast News competition: categories include Radio Feature story, television feature, News television. The five radio and five television finalists will travel to San Francisco to compete in the National Broadcast News Championship.The competition will consist of broadcast news stories, which will be produced from on-the-spot assignments. Championship dates are from June 8 - June 12 2011.
- Photojournalism competition: categories include Portrait/Personality, feature and "Personal Vision," News and Sports, and Picture Story/Series. The top six finalists will be selected for the Championship from the 14 semi-final portfolios. They will participate in the National Photojournalism Championship in San Francisco.
- Multimedia competition: categories include Features-Visual story Telling and News.
First place winners will be awarded $2,600, second place will receive $2,000, third $1,500, fourth and fifth places will receive $1,000. For deadlines, guidelines and eligibility visit Hearst Awards.
