Magazine – Science News is now accepting applications for science writer internships during spring, summer and fall. Interns work as full-time science writers under the guidance of Science News editors and writers. The internship is located in Washington, D.C., but writers will cover findings and trends occurring worldwide. It publishes online and in print and on the iPad as “Science News Prime.” The internship is intended for people planning careers in science writing and is offered three times a year for at least a three-month stay. One applicant will be selected per three-month period. Preference is given to people completing an advanced degree in journalism with an emphasis in science writing. Interns receive $500 per week. Programming and Research – Fox College Sports and Fox Sports Network based in Los Angeles are looking for interns to assist in scheduling, researching, and acquiring content for their programming departments. Interns will gain experience in sports television programming, research, and various software programs used by Fox Sports. Interns will also gain a better understanding of how to organize and manage various tasks from different parts of the sports television world, as well as learn different strategies for different sports networks. Current projects and tasks that will be assigned to the interns are overseeing the FSN/FCS Viewer Email System, assisting in FCS tracking and scheduling, and composing a Competitor Schedule. Internship hours are flexible, but applicants should expect to work between 15 and 20 hours per week. The office is open between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The 12-week program gives students a chance to work for a major metropolitan paper, covering a variety of stories in The Boston Globe’s Metro, Business, Living/Arts, Health/Science, and Sports sections, as well as shooting photos and video, designing pages and graphics for print and online, and copy editing.
