Advisement - All Journalism students who plan to attend CSUN during the fall 2012 semester must see their advisers for academic counseling during the advisement period, which will begin on March 5, 2012. Students will not be cleared for registration until the department has the counseling form on file. Advisers’ office hours are available on the table outside the Journalism Department office. The Journalism Department does not make appointments, so plan to see your adviser during his or her office hours. Pick up your advisement form and file in the department office (MZ 210) before seeing your adviser. Once advisement has been completed, both the advisement form and file must be returned to the office. If needed, you should also obtain the needed instructors’ signatures for any restricted classes. Advisement ends on April 20, 2012.
Fall 2012 Graduation –The deadline to apply for fall 2012 graduation is March 2. Thereafter, a late fee of $10 will be assessed.
Best of the West: 2012 SPJ Spring Conference – Registration is now open for the SPJ spring conference, which is set for March 30-31 at the Hilton Universal City in Los Angeles. The annual conference will bring together professional journalists and students from throughout the region – California, Arizona, Nevada and Hawaii. The conference will include sessions on digital journalism, ethics, stress in the workplace and mentoring between professionals and journalists. A separate room will be set aside at the conference for networking opportunities on Saturday. Phi Delta Theta Scholarship - Phi Delta Theta, an international men's fraternity, will be awarding scholarships to undergraduate men at California State University, Northridge during the spring semester of 2012. This series of scholarships will consist of five individual $500 scholarships. All male CSUN students who are not members of the Social Fraternity community are eligible, including incoming freshmen and transfer students. Applicants will be evaluated based upon the combination of academic performance, involvement in student organizations, and other campus activities (including athletics, service related activities, residence hall positions, departmental tutor positions, student affairs, etc.). For incoming freshmen and transfer students, academic performance during high school along with high school activities and athletics will be evaluated. Applications for the Spring Semester 2012 Scholarship Series should be submitted online at http://phide.lt/xP9NJf. The final deadline for applications is Friday, March 16, 2012. Applicants considered to be the most qualified will be invited to personal interviews at their earliest convenience. Interviews will be conducted on the CSUN campus. Recipients will be announced and scholarships awarded early during the 2012 Spring Semester. TLF Scholarship - The LAGRANT Foundation (TLF) is now accepting applications for its 2012 scholarships, which will be awarded to 20 students majoring in advertising, marketing, or public relations. Undergraduate students will receive $5,000, and graduate students will receive $10,000. The deadline to apply is February 29, 2012. In addition, TLF is hosting a career development workshop on February 24 with Proctor & Gamble. Career development workshops provide insight to students’ career choices and important networking opportunities with professionals.
