Department Office Hours - The Department's office hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Thursday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

Faculty Office Hours – Faculty adviser office hours are available online at or outside the Department office, MZ 210.  Part-time faculty office hours can be found at

Reading Room - For journalism students who need to access computers or need a quiet place to study, the Journalism Department has a computer lab in the Michael Emery Reading Room, MZ 208. No food, drinks, or using MySpace/Facebook in the Reading Room!

Social Networking Sites – The Department can be found on Facebook at, Twitter at and on Google+ at

Moodle – Students who need help with Moodle can visit for information training.

Advisement - All Journalism students who plan to attend CSUN during the fall 2012 semester must see their advisers for academic counseling during the advisement period, which will begin on March 5, 2012. Students will not be cleared for registration until the department has the counseling form on file. Advisers’ office hours are available on the table outside the Journalism Department office. The Journalism Department does not make appointments, so plan to see your adviser during his or her office hours. Pick up your advisement form and file in the department office (MZ 210) before seeing your adviser. Once advisement has been completed, both the advisement form and file must be returned to the office. If needed, you should also obtain the needed instructors’ signatures for any restricted classes. Advisement ends on April 20, 2012.

Fall 2012 Graduation –The deadline to apply for fall 2012 graduation is March 2. Thereafter, a late fee of $10 will be assessed. 

Book Club - The Spring 2012 edition of the Journalism Book Club introductory session is scheduled at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 in MZ 201. This semester’s book is "The Breakthrough," by Gwen Ifill. Check out the website For questions about the club, contact Prof. Linda Bowen.

Daily Sundial – CSUN’s Daily Sundial is hosting an open house for students who would like to contribute to the publication. The Sundial is looking for writers, reporters, photographers, artists, and designers. Contributing to the sundial will give students valuable experience which can be added to resumes and portfolios. The open house will be Thursday, February 9, 2012, from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. in MZ 140. All interested students are welcome!  

Summer Publishing Institute (SPI) – The NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies is offering an important opportunity for talented recent college graduates to learn firsthand about the publishing industry from leaders in book, magazine, and digital media. SPI will be offered from June 4 –July 13, 2012. This intensive, six-week program is developed, designed, and taught by a faculty of top professionals in the industry. The New York State Senate’s 2012-2013 Graduate/ Post-Graduate/ Mid-Career Fellowship is now accepting applications. There are generally 15 fellowships awarded each year. Students are not required to presently reside or to attend school in New York. Enrollment in the 2012-2013 Fellowship cycle begins Thursday, September 13, 2012, and it continues full-time through Wednesday, July 13, 2013. A stipend of $33,000 for study purposes will be prorated over the term of the Fellowship. The application deadline is Friday, April 20, 2012.
