Advisement – Academic advisement for the spring semester will begin today, September 23, 2013. All journalism students who plan to attend CSUN during the spring 2014 semester must see their advisers for academic counseling during the advisement period. Students will not be cleared for registration until the department has the counseling form on file. Advisers' office hours are available on the table outside the Journalism Department office. The Journalism Department does not make appointments, so plan to see your adviser during his or her office hours. Pick up you advisement form and file in the department office (MZ 210) before seeing your adviser. Once advisement has been completed, both the advisement form and file must be returned to the office. If needed, students should also obtain the instructors' signatures for any restricted classes. 

Permission Numbers – Students please note that permission numbers for the following spring 2014 classes will be handled by the Journalism Department office: JOUR 398B, JOUR 494C*, JOUR 498, MCOM 694C*. *These courses require that paperwork be filled out prior to obtaining a permission number.   


Late Change in Academic Schedule for Undergraduate Students - Students who plan to request a change of academic schedule after the late registration/ schedule adjustment deadline need to fill out the "Late Change in Academic Schedule for Undergraduate Students" form. Students will need the instructor's signature and the Department Chair's signature before they can drop it off to the Associate Dean's office at NH 211. Further instructions can be found on the form itself which can be picked up outside the Journalism Department office. 
 
 Journalism Alumni Association Hosting “Speed Mentoring” October 2 - The CSUN’s Journalism Alumni Association (JAA) will be holding a “speed mentoring” career-information event Oct 2, 2013. The event will run like “speed dating” but with mentors and students involved in the interaction. Two two-hour sessions (the first from noon to 2 p.m, and the second from 2 to 4 p.m.) will feature about 25 professional mentors from the world of print, broadcast, web journalism and public relation practitioners. Students will be grouped eight to a table, and mentors will be rotating between tables every 15 minutes. The location will be the Orange Grove Bistro –on the corner of Zelzah Avenue and Nordhoff Street. Pizza and sodas will be complimentary for students. The free event is open to journalism students on a first come, first serve basis as seating is limited. The mentors range from well-known reporters, producers, editors and public relations practitioners. Many of these pros, are or have been, active in hiring. Students must RSVP for either the early (noon to 2 p.m) or late (2 to 4 p.m) sessions, but can attend both. To RSVP, log on towww.csunalumni.com/speedmentoring. For questions call (818) 677-2137. International Journalism Fieldwork in Oman & Dubai – Study Abroad Winter Session Dec. 27, 2013 – Jan. 12, 2014. Learn how to work as a journalist in other countries. Understand and appreciate Arab culture in all its diversity. Earn three credits in Feature Writing or Documentary Film Making (Independent Study). Work with students from San Jose State University and Sultan Qaboos University (Muscat, Oman). Spend five days in Dubai and 11 in Oman. Produce a documentary film or multimedia travel stories. This will be led by Maggy Zanger, UA Journalism and Diane Guerrazzi, San Jose State University Journalism. Cost is approximately $4000, which covers all lodging, food, ground transportation and airfare. (Cost can go down with more students).
