Mandatory Advisement WILL BEGIN NEXT WEEK ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 - All Journalism students who plan to attend CSUN during Spring 2015 must see their advisers for academic counseling during the advisement period. Students will not be cleared for registration until the Department has the counseling form on file.
- Sophomores and third semester freshmen - are required to make an appointment with the academic advisor, Virginia Avila. Students must call 818-622-2024 to make an appointment.
- FRESHMEN (Second Semester) - are required to make an appointment with an adviser in the Student Resource Center/EOP, 818/677-2024.
- JUNIORS, SENIORS, AND SECOND BA – are required to meet with a faculty adviser. THE JOURNALISM OFFICE DOES NOT MAKE APPOINTMENTS – JUST PLAN TO SEE YOUR ADVISER DURING HIS/HER OFFICE HOURS.
- GRADUATE STUDENTS – are required to meet with Dr. Melissa Wall during her walk-in office hours.
Students should pick up their forms and their files in the Department office, MZ 210, before seeing their adviser. When advisement is completed, both the form and the file should be returned to the Department office. Advisers’ office hours are available on a sheet outside the Journalism Department office. No advisement will be available for continuing students after November 7! If you are a continuing journalism major and do not see an adviser during the regular advisement period, you may not be able to register until after classes start in the spring.
JOURNALISM SPEED MENTORING EVENT - Need fast, key ideas to kick off your journalism career? Swing on by to the Journalism Speed Mentoring Event Wednesday, October 8 from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Orange Grove Bistro. This event will be run like speed dating, except with mentors and students involved in the interactions. Lunch will be provided, so drop on by whenever you can. Space is limited! The Valley Performing Arts presents ANDREW SULLIVAN - Sullivan will be hosting a stimulating discussion on American politics through the perspective of a British citizen as well as his opinions on the upcoming Midterm Elections on Thursday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Plaza Del Sol Concert Hall. Journalism students who are interested in attending this discussion, please come to MZ 210 for free tickets, tickets are limited.
Scholarship : The JAMES ALAN COX FOUNDATION has personally invited CSUN journalism students to apply for their annual photojournalism awards given to students in honor of James Alan Cox. There will be 5 undergraduate photojournalism awards, payable to the students' university, in the amount of $2,500 each:
- 4 for video
- 1 for still photography
In addition, there will be one photojournalism award for a graduate student, payable to the graduate students' university in the amount of $2,500 for video work.
There will also be 5 high-end digital cameras that will be awarded to high school students for still photographs.
