Mandatory Advisement BEGAN ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 - All Journalism students who plan to attend CSUN during Spring 2015 must see their advisers for academic counseling during the advisement period.  Students will not be cleared for registration until the Department has the counseling form on file.
  • Sophomores and third semester freshmen - are required to make an appointment with the academic advisor, Virginia Avila. Students must send an email to jourappo@csun.edu and must include their name, CSUN ID#, and phone number.
  • FRESHMEN (Second Semester) - are required to make an appointment with an adviser in the Student Resource Center/EOP, 818/677-2024.
  • JUNIORS, SENIORS, AND SECOND BA – are required to meet with a faculty adviser. THE JOURNALISM OFFICE DOES NOT MAKE APPOINTMENTS – JUST PLAN TO SEE YOUR ADVISER DURING HIS/HER OFFICE HOURS.
  • GRADUATE STUDENTS – are required to meet with Dr. Melissa Wall during her walk-in office hours.
Students should pick up their forms and their files in the Department office, MZ 210, before seeing their adviser.  When advisement is completed, both the form and the file should be returned to the Department office. Advisers’ office hours are available on a sheet outside the Journalism Department office. No advisement will be available for continuing students after November 7! If you are a continuing journalism major and do not see an adviser during the regular advisement period, you may not be able to register until after classes start in the spring.


JOURNALISM SPEED MENTORING EVENT - Need fast, key ideas to kick off your journalism career? Swing on by to the Journalism Speed Mentoring Event Wednesday, October 8 from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Orange Grove Bistro. This event will be run like speed dating, except with mentors and students involved in the interactions. Lunch will be provided, so drop on by whenever you can. Space is limited! ADVISEMENT ENRICHMENT WORKSHOPS - 
“Taking A Proactive Approach to Your College Career”
If you have any questions regarding advisements, graduation, collateral/minor, 80/65 we encourage you to attend the advisement enrichment workshops hosted by the Journalism Department's faculty advisers. Please attend one of the following:
  • Thursday, October 9, from 7 to 8 p.m., in Manzanita Hall 130 
  • Tuesday, October 28, from 3 to 4 p.m., in Manzanita Hall 130

Please bring a printout of your Degree Progress Report (DPR) and be prepared to take notes.

Comics vs. Capitalism vs. Climate -  Stephanie McMillan, Ted Rall and other cartoonists will be at CSUN Tuesday, October 14th through Saturday, October 18th to present and discuss political cartoons. All journalism students are encouraged to attend the discussion by Stephanie McMillan and Ted Rall Friday, October 17th "Art is Weapon" from 2-3:40 p.m. in Nordhoff Hall 113.


POLS 471A - In Spring 2015, POLS 471A will be taught by former Governor of Hawaii, Linda Lingle. The course will feature a variety of guest speakers with extensive experience leading public organizations and working on public policy. To apply to enroll in the class,please fill out the Personal Information section of the application found in the Journalism office MZ 210. Provide a statement of interest of no more than one page. Your application should be turned in to the Political Science Department office in Sierra Hall 210. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, but full consideration will be given to students who submit their applications by Monday, October 20th.
