WHAT ARE THE RTNA/JIM ZAILLIAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP, THE RTNA/JERRY DUNPHY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AND THE RTNA/HAL FISHMAN MEMORIAL AWARDS?

The Radio and Television News Association of Southern California (RTNA) is the Southland’s leading organization for broadcast journalists. One scholarship is named in honor of the late Jim Zaillian, who served as KNX news director for ten years. Zaillian was an active member of RTNA and had a special interest in the education of broadcast journalism students. Another scholarship is named in honor of Hal Fishman, legendary anchor at KTLA. Winners will receive their scholarship awards at the Golden Mike Awards Banquet on January 23, 2016.

WHERE CAN I APPLY FOR A SCHOLARSHIP?

Students may apply online by visiting our website, www.rtna.org, and filling out the online application.

WHEN IS THE DEADLINE?

All applications must be received no later than November 6, 2015. Applications submitted after that date will not be eligible. Supporting material such as proof of enrollment, letters of recommendation, etc. should be received by mail no later than December 7, 2015.

WHY SHOULD I JOIN THE RTNA?

The RTNA supports and promotes broadcast journalists in their efforts to cover the news and our community. Among its many activities, which include organizing and presenting the annual Golden Mike Awards, the RTNA is instrumental in fighting for Freedom of Information and bringing cameras into courtrooms.
