Actor Sean Penn's recent Rolling Stone Magazine account of his interview with Mexican "drug lord", "El Chapo", has led to some discussion amongst journalists in regards to the "objective" of Penn's interview-- which included his opinions about issues such as, the so-called "war on drugs".
The discussion will include questions such as:
- Is objectivity over?
- Is it OK for print/online or broadcast reporters to expand their messages with commentary and unattributed opinion?
- Do the rules change when the topics are drug trafficking, domestic violence or political campaigns?
- Are readers intelligent enough to judge the content of such messages?
-CSUN SPJ Club hosts Porter Ranch Gas Leak discussion with guest speaker, Los Angeles Times reporter, Alice Walton.
