Paid Video Editing Mentorship
Opportunity for seniors and recent graduates

PBS is seeking two aspiring broadcast media mentors to support their local PBS Newshour Student Reporting Lab sites as Etiwanda High School in Rancho Cucamanga and Daniel Pearl Magnet School in the San Fernando Valley.


  • Guide the students and teacher through the life of news segment, from concept to completion, over the course of each semester 
  • Commit to at least 9 school site visits (one each month from September-May)
  • Act as a storytelling resource and guide
  • Act as a technical resource and guide (from how-does-this-camera-work to editing techniques)
  • Serve as a role model
  • Preferred: B.A. in film, journalism, broadcast journalism, media, or communications
  • At least 2 years film/broadcast news experience
  • Experience tutoring/mentoring.working with high school students
  • Experience creating content for digital/web
  • Interest in youth culture and exceptional belief in youth empowerment

The internship involves a lot of writing, mostly media releases -- both event and feature releases - as well as handling media queries and assisting, as needed, in the Office of Marketing and Communications. Whoever fills the position will be involved in all aspects of media relations, from writing releases, handling media calls, directly working with reporters and producers, creating multimedia projects and assisting with media events. The position also will fill in, as needed, in CSUN's University Advancement division.

Up to 20 hours a week, depending on the student's schedule.

Los Angeles
Fall 2016 Internship
August 15 - December 16

FRANK151 is looking for interns to work in their Los Angeles office this Fall semester. Join them as they try to take on the world (or at least South La Brea) with rapper interviews, first person reporting on national political issues, dank weed memes, profiles of Instagram goofballs, and the work of emerging visual artists. FRANK151 will not make you grab coffee for them or pick up their doggy from daycare. FRANK151 will allow you to pitch and hopefully write your own articles. Though you are going to have to transcribe some interviews, too. If that sounds like a fair deal, read the requirements and expectations below. FRANK151 is looking for applicants with experience or training in writing, copy editing, and transcription.

  • Pitching and writing stories for website, specifically focused on news stories tied to contemporary culture. Applicants should be familiar with FRANK151 website, voice, and the type of stories that are published.
  • Editorial research. Tasks may include finding contact information for sources, covering events, brainstorming interview questions, transcribing interviews, and more.
  • Original reporting. Intern is expected to speak to sources for each story you write, as opposed to aggregating the reporting of others or writing blog posts.
  • 15 hours of work each week
Required Qualifications:
  • Experience pitching stories and writing for a media outlet (this includes student-run publications) or at least one semester of Communications, English, or Journalism courses.
  • Familiarity with AP or Chicago style
  • Experience interviewing, transcribing, and conducting editorial research

Digital Internship Opportunity

NBC4 is hiring paid interns to join their digital team this fall. This is a rigorous program designed exclusively for students who already have a mastery of online news reporting, writing and AP style, and are ready to learn more. Strong news writing skills are a must.

Fall interns work 20 hours per week at the Brokaw News Center in Universal City.
