Daily Sundial – CSUN’s Daily Sundial is hosting an open house forstudents who would like to contribute to the publication. The Sundial islooking for writers, reporters, photographers, artists, and designers.Contributing to the sundial will give students valuable experience which can beadded to resumes and portfolios. The open house will be Thursday, February 9,2012, from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. in MZ140. All interested students arewelcome!

OTRC College Journalist Contest - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences andOnTheRedCarpet.com has announced the On The Red Carpet (OTRC) CollegeJournalist Contest, inviting college students from around the country tocompete for a chance to report live from the red carpet at the 84th AcademyAwards. Through February 5, college students are invited to submit a threeminute video to www.redcarpetjournalist.com, showcasing their interviewingskills and proving why they deserve to represent future broadcast journalistsat the Oscars. All videos submitted must be from teams made up of one reporter,one producer and one videographer. Two teams will be selected from each of theABC-owned television stations’ markets for a total of 16 finalist teams. These16 teams will then be judged by an expert panel composed of representativesfrom the Academy and KABC-TV who will determine the contest winner. The winningteam will cover Academy Awards pre-events, including the Animated FeatureSymposium, Foreign Language Film Award press event, the Makeup Artists andHairstylists Symposium and the Governors Ball preview. Additionally, thewinning team will have the opportunity to work with KABC-TV’s OTRC team andreport live during the “On The Red Carpet at the Oscars” pre-show. Broadcast– The Academy of Television Arts& Sciences Foundation is offering a summer internship program which willprovide students with hands-on exposure to all facets of the televisionindustry. Those interested must be a full-time students pursuing anundergraduate or graduate degree at a college in the United States. Allinternship positions are full-time for eight weeks. Interns will receive a$4,000 stipend. The postmark deadline to apply is March 15, 2012. Public Relations – The Van Nuys Airport is looking for upto two volunteers who specialize in public and community relations. Internswill be working 10-20 hours per week depending on the interns’ schedules. Theinternship is non-paid, but it is useful for resume building and learning. Thisinternship does not need to be for class credit. The Van Nuys Airport islooking for interns with press release writing skills, so applicants should providewriting samples. Interns may also work exhibit booths and assist with airporttours. General office work, such as answering phones and filing, and postinginformation to the airport’s Facebook and Twitter accounts will also be part ofthe interns’ experiences. Summer Teacher - The Institute of Reading Development is seekingcandidates for summer 2012 teaching positions. The Institute is an educationalservice provider that teaches developmental reading programs in partnershipwith the continuing education departments of more than 100 colleges anduniversities across the United States. Third Floor Computer Labs - Due to budget cut-backs, thedepartment cannot afford to keep the rooms on the third floor open. Those whoneed to use a computer lab can go to the Oviatt Library, University StudentUnion, or Satellite Student Union. There are two campus open access computerlabs; Sierra Hall 392, and the Library's Collaboratory. The use of these labsis restricted to current CSUN students, faculty & staff, and is subject tothe University Policy for Use of Computing Resources. Printing at 10 cents perpage, paid for by copy/print card only, is available at printer stationslocated throughout the Library. http://library.csun.edu/Services/PhotocopyPrint. The USU andSSU offer Computer Labs offer various workstations that include MicrosoftOffice throughout and Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator software applications onselect workstations, ADA accessibility, and 20 pages of FREE printing perstudent, per day. CSUN Student Recreation Center – The grand opening for the new Student RecreationCenter will be held on January 26, 2012, at 10 a.m. The grand opening willinclude food trucks, live performances, special crafts, a photo booth,inflatable sports games, and student-led tours. The new facilities include a1/8 mile running tack, custom-designed group exercise and fitness studios, themulti-activity “MatArena,” and a rock climbing wall. Summer Fellowship Opportunity- The Village Voice family of companies, inconjunction with the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and MassCommunication at Arizona State University, is offering an eight-week, paidsummer fellowship for students concentrating on Web and digital media. Participantswill be immersed in blogging, photography, audio, video, and social media andwill produce original, reported material for Village Voice online publications.Program instructors will include top Cronkite faculty and the nation’s leadingnews, music, and food writers from the Village Voice family of websites andnewspapers. Advisers – As a reminder, Journalism Departmentadvisers will not hold office hours during the week of finals (December 12 –December 17).

TheNorthridge Scholarship Programprovides support for students who strive for high levels of achievement andwant to be challenged through honors coursework, thirst for opportunities towork closely with faculty, and have a passion for their field of study. ThePresidential Scholarship offers selected scholars $5,000 award, textbookdiscounts at the Matador Bookstore, and priority registration. Those seekingthe scholarship must be full-time CSUN undergraduate students at the time ofapplication and during the award year, must have a minimum of 3.5 cumulativeGPA, must have completed at least 60 units but no more than 96 cumulative unitsby the end of spring 2012, and must attend a mandatory pre-applicationworkshop. Public Relations / Marketing /Communications – TheAmerican Lung Association in California is looking for a spring intern to worktowards the March 31, 2012, Fight for Air Climb event. The primary responsibilityof the intern is to support marketing and communications functions of thedevelopment department in producing the fifth annual Fight for Air Climb andinaugural Distance Swim Challenge. Responsibilities include writing and distributingpress releases and media alerts, conducting outreach to secure mediasponsorship, assisting in managing/monitoring social media presence, andperforming other duties as assigned. Some cold calling is required. Theintern’s work schedule is flexible based on personal schedule and the AmericanLung Association office hours (M-F 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.), but the intern shouldbe available for at least 8 – 10 hours per week. Some work can be doneremotely. Applicants must be a non-smoker with prior work experience. Strongwriting and communication skills are desirable, and applicants should be detailoriented, mature, and personable. 2011 Mark of Excellence Awards – Annually, the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) presents the Mark of Excellence Awards honoring the best in student journalism. Entries are first judged at the regional level. First-place regional winners advance to the national competition and are recognized at SPJ spring conferences. National winners will be showcased on spj.org. The contest is open to anyone enrolled in a U.S. college or university and studying for an academic degree in 2011. Entries must have been published or broadcast during the 2011 calendar year. For more details and to enter, please visit awards.spj.org. The entry deadline is January 25, 2012.

Registration for Spring 2012 is upon us, and there are some critical changes you should be aware of as you plan your schedule. 1. Students will be permitted to enroll in 13 units during the first phase of the Spring 2012 registration period, from Nov. 8 through Dec. 11. 2. During nonrestricted registration, which begins on Dec. 12 and continues until the start of the classes, students will be permitted to add units, up to a total of 15. This is a change from Fall 2011, and we urge you to be strategic in selecting classes during the first phase of registration. We also want you to be aware that there will be fewer classes available this Spring.

As you are no doubt aware, California continues to experience significant financial challenges. As a result, the California State University system has experienced a significant budget reduction. Over the past several years, Cal State Northridge has managed these fiscal challenges by taking a variety of measures to balance budget constrains with the needs of students. Unfortunately, since the economy has not rebounded as we had hoped it would by the start of the academic year, the need to prioritize and reduce course offerings has now become a reality.
We share your disappointment that the University is forced to reduce courses, and we remain committed to offering students the opportunity to enroll in a full course load. As you prepare to register, please consult with your adviser and review the classes that you need to take to make progress toward the attainment of your degree.

Dueto the reduction in course offerings, the internship classes (J494B &J494C) will only be available to those students who are graduating in Spring2012.

Hard News Writing /Research- KCBS/KCAL’s investigative team is looking for an intern for the fallsemester. This internship is a unique chance for a student to get hands-onexperience with investigative research and undercover work. The intern will beinvolved with investigative news gathering including performing undercoverwork, shooting undercover video, performing Internet research, and loggingvideo. The student will get an in-depth experience of what it means to be onthe i-team. Weeks, sometimes months, are spent on single stories, and studentsare always working on many projects at once. Fall 2011 JournalismScholarships – TheDepartment of Journalism announces the availability of eight scholarships. Theawards will be announced in December. The scholarship criteria are listedbelow. Two The NationalNotary Association Scholarship inthe amount of $500 will be awarded to junior journalism majors who demonstrateacademic merit and financial need. Two Lisa EndigJournalism WRITING Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a journalismundergraduate or graduate student who shows outstanding ability in writing forbroadcast or print media. Serious consideration will be given to students whoare overcoming difficulties while continuing their education.

The San FernandoValley PUBLIC RELATIONS Roundtable Scholarship in the amount of $250 will be awarded toa junior or senior who demonstrates public relation skills. Applicants mustsubmit a proposal for raising funds to maintain or increase the capital in theJournalism Department’s Scholarship Fund.

The Valley Press ClubScholarship for COMMUNITY JOURNALISM in the amount of $250 will be awarded toa graduate or undergraduate. Candidates write an essay describing their ideasfor improving print or broadcast community journalism.

The Flip WilsonMemorial Scholarshipin the amount of $24,916 will be awarded for tuition, room, board, books andfees for the school year. Applicants must be at least a junior, have at least a3.0 GPA and submit a 2,500-3,000 word critical essay about Flip Wilson’scontributions to comedy or television. Applicants must be enrolled in spring2012 and fall 2012 semesters.

Judicial – The Department of Political Sciencehas announced that applications are now available for the spring 2012 JudicialInternship Program. This is a unique program that pairs individual studentswith Superior Court Judges in the San Fernando Valley (Chatsworth, SanFernando, and Van Nuys, Santa Clarita Valley, or Lancaster). It provides theopportunity for students to observe court proceedings and learn about the lawand the judicial process. Students receive three units of credit for the courseand are required to do a minimum of 120 hours of observation in the courtsincluding time spent talking and working with the judge to which they areassigned. The course is primarily intended for students thinking about a careerin law. A Minimum GPA of 3.0 and a statement of interest in the law arerequired. Freedom Riders Screening – Join Reverend James Lawson Jr. in ascreening of the award-winning film FreedomRiders on Monday, October 17. Selected Topic Courses for Spring 2011 - The Journalism Department announces four selected topic courses for Spring 2011 J495SLT - Spanish-Language Television; J495LF – Long Form; J495NM – New Media and J495SJM – Social Justice Media. To enroll in journalism 495LF, 495NM or 495SJM students must have completed J.310 or J.315 with a "C" or better. Fall 2011 Journalism Scholarships - The Department of Journalism announcesthe availability of eight scholarships. The awards will be announced in December. The scholarship criteria are listed below. TwoThe National Notary Association Scholarship inthe amount of $500 will be awarded to junior journalism majors who demonstrateacademic merit and financial need. TheTom Reilly Student Journalism Enterprise Fundprovides one or more journalism juniors, seniors or graduate students, up to$2,000 each for a student project or enterprise.
The Ben Hecht Scholarship in ENTERTAINMENT JOURNALISM inthe amount of $750 will be awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student. Applicants write autobiographical statementsunderscoring a demonstrated interest in entertainment journalism.
The Angus Campbell Scholarship in HARD NEWS JOURNALISM inthe amount of $500 will be awarded to a junior or senior in journalism, whodemonstrates academic promise and plans to pursue a career in hard newsjournalism.
Two Lisa Endig Journalism WRITING Scholarshipsin the amount of $1,000 will be awardedto a journalism undergraduate or graduate student who shows outstanding abilityin writing for broadcast or print media. Serious consideration will be given to students who are overcomingdifficulties while continuing their education.
The San Fernando Valley PUBLICRELATIONSRoundtable Scholarship in the amount of $250will be awarded to a junior or senior who demonstrates public relation skills. Applicants must submit a proposal for raisingfunds to maintain or increase the capital in the Journalism Department’sScholarship Fund.
TheValley Press Club Scholarship for COMMUNITY JOURNALISM in the amount of $250 willbe awarded to a graduate or undergraduate. Candidates write an essay describingtheir ideas for improving print or broadcast community journalism.
The Flip Wilson Memorial Scholarship in the amountof $24,916 for tuition, room, board, books and fees for the school year. Applicants must be at least a junior, have at least a 3.0 GPA andsubmit a 2,500-3,000 word critical essay about Flip Wilson’s contributions tocomedy or television. Applicants must beenrolled in spring 2012 and fall 2012.

Fox News Channel College Challenge – Fox News Channel has announced its annual “Fox News Channel College Challenge,” a nationwide competition for undergraduate juniors and seniors majoring in journalism, broadcast journalism, communications or an equivalent. The challenge requires a team of two to four students to research, write, produce, and submit an objective news story. A panel from Fox News Channel, who are integral in news gathering, production and presentation of news programming, will judge the entries. The winning students will receive a $10,000 scholarship shared amongst team members, a $10,000 grant to the winning team’s school, a trip to New York City with an administrator to appear on Fox News Channel, and an internship at FOX News Channel for juniors, or an entry level job interview for seniors at FOX News Channel. Magazine – Science News is now accepting applications for science writer internships during spring, summer and fall. Scholarship Opportunity - The Narco News School of Authentic Journalism and the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict today announce 24 scholarships for the October 21-23 workshop in new York on Organizing Journalism & Civil Resistance. The session is open to independent journalists and media makers (print, online and video) who report on social movements and seek to be better at it. Applications can be received via email by writing to NYWorkshop2011@narconews.com and are due by 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, September 21, 2011. This workshop offers training in the use of video and written and online media to help journalists and media makers report more effectively on social movements, civil resistance, nonviolent campaigns and community organizing so that the messages of those movements can cut through the clouds of mass media confusion. The event is free to accepted applicants: No tuition will be charged. Scholarship recipients must agree to attend all sessions of the workshop, from Friday, October 21 at 5 p.m. to Sunday October 23 at 6 p.m. The workshop is open to applicants of any age, nationality, race, gender, sexual orientation or political tendency. Interactive Graphic/ Web Developer - The Indianapolis Star and IndyStar.com are looking for an interactive graphic/web developer to join their award-winning Digital & Visuals Department. This position is responsible for creating and developing the majority of interactive and visual components for IndyStar.com and its mobile products. Labor Day, September 5 – The CSUN campus will be closed to observe Labor Day on September 5. Classes will not be in session, and campus offices will not be open.

Third Floor Computer Labs - Due to student abuse of our lab resources, we cannot afford to keep the rooms on the third floor open. Those who need to use a computer lab can go to the Oviatt Library, University Student Union, or Satellite Student Union. There are two campus open access computer labs; Sierra Hall 392, and the Library's Collaboratory. The use of these labs is restricted to current CSUN students, faculty, and staff, and is subject to the University Policy for Use of Computing Resources. Advisement - Journalism majors intending to attend CSUN during the spring 2012 semester must see an adviser for counseling. Advisement begins on September 19, 2011. Office hours are available on the table outside of the Journalism Department office in MZ 210. The office does not make appointments, so students should plan to see advisers during his/her office hours. Students should pick up their advisement forms and folders in the department office before seeing advisers. After the advisement session is completed, folders and forms must be brought back to the department office. If needed, students should also obtain the instructor’s signatures for restricted classes. Advisement will end on October 28, 2011.

Reading Room - For journalism students who need to access computers or need a quiet place to study, the Journalism Department has a computer lab in the Michael Emery Reading Room, MZ 208. No food, drinks, or using MySpace/Facebook in the Reading Room!

Thesis/ Project/ Performance Support Program - Funds are available for graduate students working on research projects, artistic performances, and theses. Awards up to $1,000 may be provided to selected students, based on review of an application which outlines the project, thesis or performance and anticipated costs. Social Media/ Public Relations - Kahn Media, a growing public relations firm specializing in the use of social media along with traditional PR techniques, is looking for a student intern who is interested in learning more about PR and marketing. Clients are well known, automotive aftermarket brands, so a passion/knowledge of cars and the automotive industry would be beneficial, though not required. Day to day tasks will vary. Responsibilities include creating media lists, tracking and scanning media placements, online research, social media (Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, Storify, etc.), and scanning forums. There may be some opportunities for writing, as well as pitching the media for the right intern. Design and video could also play a role in the internship, though that is not the primary (or even secondary) focus. Those interested must be interested in pursuing public relations as a career, be organized and detail oriented, work well with others, yet able to work independently, be a good problem solver, be familiar with social media, Microsoft Office (Photoshop and Adobe are a plus), and be available at least two days a week. Compensation is $10 per hour, and can be used for course credit with department approval. An ideal intern would be interested in staying around for future semesters, which may lead to a full time position. Sports internship - Jyra International, a Los Angeles-based media and information company is accepting applications for a 2011 Fall Intern who must receive college credit for the internship. Jyra International provides content both on television and online to a number of media organizations. A significant portion of work as an intern will be assisting in covering sports stories. Therefore, interns must be very well-versed in a variety of sports. Interns must know the rules of all five major sports at minimum. Interns will also assist in creating general content, unrelated to sports. Student must be a solid writer and be very particular about accurately reporting information. Intern must be very tenacious about finding answers and providing creative input. The intern’s tasks could include the following:

Editorial Internship - L.A. Parent, a division of Dominion Parenting Media/Dominion Enterprises in Burbank is searching for someone with excellent language skills, a sense of style vis-à-vis the written word, a can-do spirit and a desire to learn. Interns will work directly with the editors and be up to their elbows in the production of daily web updates, weekly e-newsletters, a monthly magazine, and occasional events. The internship will involve writing, editing and proofreading for web and print, including some social media updating. CNBC TV Internship – One fall 2011 internship position is open at the CNBC TV in Los Angeles. The available position requires the student to intern 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on two days (Monday, Tuesday or Thursdays). No other days are available. The news internship is unpaid and requires the student obtain academic credit for the program. Students will gain practical, hands-on experience in a busy newsroom. Health Communications Internship Program (HCIP) - The National Cancer Institute is accepting applications for its Spring 2012 HCIP class. Applications for the spring term are due by September 6th. Broadcast investigative internship – KCBS/KCAL’s investigative team is looking for an intern for fall semester. This internship is a unique chance for a student to get hands-on experience with investigative research and undercover work. Student will get an in-depth experience of what it means to be on the i-team. We spend weeks, sometimes months on single stories and are always working on many projects at once. UDWE - The next test date for the Upper Division Writing Exam is May 28, 2011. This is the last test that can be taken for those with a Spring 2011 expected graduation date. Registration ends on May 20. Undergraduate students must take or register to take the Upper Division Writing Test this semester if they will complete 75 units or more by the end of spring 2011. Students can take the exam after completing 56 units and meeting the Lower Division writing requirement. Students who have not taken the UDWPE or have not registered to take the exam by the completion of 75 units will have a hold placed on their Fall 2011 registration.

Kenneth S. Devol First Amendment Forum - The Los Angeles Times' reporters Jeff Gottlieb and Ruben Vives will be the feature speakers at this year's Kenneth S. Devol First Amendment Forum. The event will focus on their Pulitzer Prize-winning public service work, "Breach of Faith," that investigated and reported on the corruption scandal in the city of Bell. UDWE - The next test date for the Upper Division Writing Exam is May 28, 2011. This is the last test that can be taken for those with a Spring 2011 expected graduation date. Registration ends on May 20. Undergraduate students must take or register to take the Upper Division Writing Test this semester if they will complete 75 units or more by the end of spring 2011. Students can take the exam after completing 56 units and meeting the Lower Division writing requirement. Students who have not taken the UDWPE or have not registered to take the exam by the completion of 75 units will have a hold placed on their Fall 2011 registration.

Master's Program- Polytechnic Institute of New York University's Master of Science Integrated Digital Media program gives students hands-on experience as they learn to create content-driven design, plan and execute digital media projects and think critically about communicating in new media channels including the web, mobile apps, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other technologies on the rise.The program blends theory and practice, giving students the historical, legal and philosophical perspective to excel in the field. The Department of Journalism is offering eight scholarships and awards. Winners will be announced in May 2011. Applications must be turned in to MZ 210 by 4p.m., Thursday, April 14, 2011.

STEVEN FISHMAN SCHOLARSHIP - $250
Supported by friends, family and colleagues, this award is given in memory of Steven Fishman, a CSUN journalism graduate who died of cancer. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating student who has shown strength in ...broadcasting sports, news or other programming and needs financial assistance to get started in a broadcasting career.

CHEVRON OUTSTANDING PUBLIC RELATIONS STUDENT AWARD - $600
This scholarship recognizes the best public relations effort during summer or fall 2010 or spring 2011. Applicants will be judged on a two-page essay and portfolio containing samples of public relations presentations in a class or during an internship. The competition is open to all undergraduate and graduate students.

HEARST OUTSTANDING BROADCAST NEWS AND IN-DEPTH REPORTING AWARD - $600
This award recognizes the best broadcast reporting of hard news stories during summer or fall 2010 or spring 2011 in any of the journalism department broadcast news media--KCSN News, Valley View, or On Point. The competition is open to all undergraduate or graduate students.

AGNESS UNDERWOOD OUTSTANDING PRINT REPORTING AWARD - $600
Named for a long-time inspiration to Los Angeles journalists, this annual award recognizes the best reporting from summer or fall 2010 or spring 2011 in any of the journalism department print news media. The competition is open to all graduate and undergraduate students.

OUTSTANDING PHOTOJOURNALISM STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP - $250
This scholarship recognizes the best photojournalism during summer or fall 2010 or spring 2011 in the Department of Journalism. Selection will be based on portfolio and financial need. The competition is open to juniors or seniors.

JOURNALISM ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP - $500
This scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior with an interest in a career in journalism or a journalism-related field. Applicants must submit a brief essay detailing their professional and personal goals and how studying journalism will help achieve these goals. Applicants must have at least 12 units remaining at the end of the spring 2011 semester and enroll at CSUN in fall 2011.

JOANN DESANTIS ADVOCACY AWARD - $250
This award honors Joann DeSantis, who was an administrative assistant in the journalism department for 19 years. It will be presented to a CSUN journalism major who has worked to improve the lives of others through volunteerism. Students may be nominated by someone or apply themselves. Applicants need not be enrolled in fall 2011.

THE FLIP WILSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $22,931
This scholarship can be used for tuition, room, board, books and fees for a student’s senior school year. Applicants must be at least a junior, have a least a 3.0 GPA and submit a 2,500-3,000 word critical essay about Flip Wilson’s contributions to comedy or television. Applicants must be enrolled in fall 2011 and spring 2012.

MICHAEL EMERY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $500
This scholarship honors the late Dr. Michael Emery, a member of the journalism department's faculty for almost three decades. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduate student studying journalism history, international news media, or mass media criticism, three areas of special interest to Prof. Emery.

(FIVE) THE NATIONAL NOTARY ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP - $500
These scholarships will be awarded to junior journalism majors who demonstrate academic merit and financial need. Applicants must have at least a 3.2 GPA and have spent a semester working in journalism or a related field. Applicants must be enrolled in fall 2011.

Reporter - The Daily News is looking for students for their Metro section. Interns will primarily cover news events in the San Fernando Valley, but will also take short rotations with sports, features and online. The pay is $8 an hour, plus the potential of a $1,000 stipend from CCNMA. Broadcast - CNBC is offering summer internships at its Los Angeles site. Students will have the opportunity to gain practical hands-on experience in a busy newsroom. Interns will learn about broadcast journalism, production, technology, editing, script writing, research, news gathering, business and more. Students are encouraged to apply early, as there is a limited number of positions and are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. This is an unpaid position, students must be able to receive academic credit for this internship. The summer internship will last about 10 weeks from the beginning of June until mid-August. The New York State Senate Fellowships - The Senate 2011-2012 Graduate/Post-Graduate/Mid-career Fellowship is offering 11 fellowships in the Legislative Fellows Program, one Richard J. Roth Journalism Fellowship, one Richard A. Wiebe Public Service Fellowship and one James L. Biggane Fellowship in Finance. Applicants must be full-time matriculated graduate students in an accredited university during the immediate previous spring and fall semesters. Enrollment in the 2011-2012 fellowship cycle begins Thursday, September 8, 2011 and continues through Wednesday, July 11, 2012. The stipend for study purposes is $32,000 and will be paid in biweekly installments. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 15, 2011. All Journalism students who plan to attend CSUN during Fall 2011 must see their advisers for academic counseling during the advisement period. Students will not be cleared for registration until the Department has the counseling form on file. The journalism office does not make appointments, just plan to see your advisor during her/his office hours. Please pick up your forms and files in the Department office, MZ 210.

War with Mexico- The Oviatt Library and the Department of Journalism invites you to join us for a celebration of the life of Dr. Tom Reilly on the publication of his posthumous book "War with Mexico! America's Reporters cover the Battlefront," edited by Manley Witten (former faculty member). Dr. Reilly was the former Journalism Chair and faculty member. The panel will take place March 17 from 4- 6 p.m. at the Oviatt Library, Graduate Reading Room. Please RSVP to (818) 677-2638.

Career Day - For students who are serious about landing that first job in journalism, public relations and other media-related fields, this year’s Career Day has something for everyone. The panel will feature professionals ready to share their experiences and answer questions on a diverse range of professions. This year's Career Day will be held on Thursday, March 24 in the Johnson Auditorium 100 in Jacaranda Hall from 2-4 p.m.

Grad Fest - Students who will be graduating in the Spring have the opportunity to make all arrangements for participation in commencement. Grad Fest is set for Wednesday, March 9 and Thursday, March 10 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. in the Matador Bookstore.

Graduation Deadlines - For Spring 2012 or Summer 2012 graduation, students must apply before July 8, 2011.
