2019 STF Al Young Sports Journalism Scholarship The AAJA Sports Task Force is pleased to offer a scholarship of up to $2,000 to current college students interested in pursuing sports journalism/media as a career. About the AAJA Sports Task Force The mission of the AAJA Sports Task Force is to elevate the voice of Asian Americans in sports and encourage future Asian American sports journalists across multiple media platforms through mentorship and scholarship opportunities. Sports are increasingly becoming part of everyday lives. Beyond the entertainment value, sports issues have – at times – led newscasts and made headlines across traditional news outlets. What has been lacking is the perspective of Asian American voices in sports media. The AAJA Sports Task Force scholarship is one way to turn the tide. Job opportunity: LA Times Location: El Segundo, CA The Los Angeles Times is looking for general assignment reporters to cover California. The successful candidates will have the ability to juggle a variety of assignments and quickly become expert in a wide assortment of stories, from live breaking news to short-term enterprise reporting. This is the kind of job that could have you on the front lines of a brush fire, running to the scene of a shooting, diving into a short-term investigation off the news and doing re-write on br eaking news. Hopefully not all in the same day, but you never know. The reporters will work out of the El Segundo office but will frequently be dispatched across California to cover news. The ability to identify and execute breaking news is essential, as is a comfort with working on all our platforms and social media. The successful candidate must also be able to develop short-term enterprise stories that can publish and perfect from quick blog
