THE CHRONICLE OF SOCIAL CHANGE
POSITION: GENERAL ASSIGNMENT REPORTER
DEADLINE: FRIDAY,  SEPT. 22

This position is a full-time job and it entails covering juvenile justice, child welfare and children’s mental health.

For this Los Angeles-based position, they're looking for a self-starter with journalism experience who is passionate about news writing and children’s issues in the Golden State. Applicants should have some writing chops, but will also need strong research skills, an ability to wade into the finer point of policy and a knack for coming up with creative storytelling ideas.

Skills:
  • Develop story ideas
  • Sound writing skills
  • Social media savvy
  • Positive attitude
  • Utilize creativity to tell stories
  • Photography skills a definite plus
Qualifications:
  • Strong writing and copy editing skills are a must
  • At least to years of experience as a reporter
  • Must be able to work well under deadline pressure
  • Spanish fluency preferred

Mentor Program Opportunity February 20-February 24

NPR Next Generation Radio Annenberg School at USC  Students at Cal State schools in greater Los Angeles and the University of Southern California, this one's for you. NPR’s Next Generation Radio is now accepting applications for our non-narrated audio and digital media storytelling project at the Annenberg School at USC March 13-17. Apply by midnight PST Wednesday February 23 https://nextgenradio.wufoo.com/forms/m1hrmmou0vnz2ee/ This program seeks to increase diversity in public media through hands-on training and mentorship. Students get to spend a week with their own professional mentor, working on NPR style audio stories, video, social media and web content. There is no cost to apply or be admitted into the program. (Students pay travel and food expenses though).
