DIGITAL NEWS PRODUCER

The digital news producer is responsible for writing and reporting breaking and developing news stories on KTLA.com, KTLA 5 mobile apps and social media. Must have excellent news judgment, a sense of what's important to KTLA 5 viewers and Southern Californians in general, and the ability to report and write news stories accurately, clearly and quickly.

Responsibilities: 
The producer will have a comprehensive knowledge of reporting, sourcing, transparency and journalism ethics, as well as a mastery of spelling, punctuation, grammar and AP Style. Will also be detail-oriented, organized and able to prioritize and comfortably multitask under tight deadlines. 

The applicant must be able to integrate digital content with broadcast coverage and communicate effectively with the assignment desk, show producers and on-air reporters.

The candidate must be comfortable with technology, as he or she will manage video live streams and also create, edit and post video clips from newscasts and other raw feeds. Experience with non-linear video editing and web publishing systems is preferred. Knowledge of Photoshop is preferred. Experience with Final Cut Pro is a plus.

Familiarity and comfort with Twitter and Facebook are required, and the candidate should understand how social media is an asset to a news organization. The producer should also be willing to experiment and follow new developments in social media.

Qualifications:
Previous experience in a newsroom, especially on a digital platform or in local television news, is strongly preferred. Those with primarily print/newspaper experience must demonstrate that they can respond to breaking news with speed. The ability to continually update and rewrite stories with the newest information while promptly posting updates on the station's social media accounts is a must. Bachelor's degree and three years of experience in print writing required. The candidate must have excellent command of the English language, both verbal and written. The individual must be able to work various shifts and times, including early mornings, nights and weekends.

NPR Next Generation Radio Annenberg School at USC  Students at Cal State schools in greater Los Angeles and the University of Southern California, this one's for you. NPR’s Next Generation Radio is now accepting applications for our non-narrated audio and digital media storytelling project at the Annenberg School at USC March 13-17. Students get to spend a week with their own professional mentor, working on NPR style audio stories, video, social media and web content. There is no cost to apply or be admitted into the program.
