RADIO & TELEVISION NEWS ASSOCIATION DEADINE: NOV. 10 The scholarship is offering a minimum of $1,000 to students whose career objective is broadcast journalism and currently is studying at sophomore level or above at an accredited Southern California college or university. One scholarship is named in honor of the late Jim Zaillian, who served as KNX news director for ten years. Zaillian was an active member of RTNA and had a special interest in the education of broadcast journalism students. Another scholarship is named in honor of Hal Fishman, legendary anchor at KTLA. Winners will receive their scholarship awards at the Golden Mike Awards Banquet on January 27, 2018 . The RTNA is a great program to join as it supports and promotes broadcast journalists in their efforts to cover the news and the community. The Times offer 10 weeks of intensive, hands-on experience in a region where big stories are the norm.  They place interns throughout the L.A. Times: Metro/Local, Foreign/National, Sports, Business, Features (Home, Image, Travel, Food, Mind & Body), Arts & Entertainment, Editorial Pages, Photography/Video, Data Desk, Visualization and Data, Design, Website/Audience Engagement and in our Sacramento and Washington, D.C., bureaus.  (Their copy editing intern is selected through the  Dow Jones News Fund's  national selection process, and that deadline is Nov. 1, 2017.) These are paid internships and placements usually run from June to late August. They do not have fall or spring internships.
